Events at VHUMC:

Most of you know about the FISH program and the many, many years our church has been part of this ministry. Non-perishable food is their greatest need, but there are other items they can always use.  Some of these include personal hygiene items (toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, toilet paper and facial tissues, etc.), clothing, sheets, towels and blankets. Please remember to launder them since these items are dispersed as soon as FISH receives them.  There is a list in the narthex by the FISH. So please think about FISH as another option to other donation sights you may use.

In June 91 lbs. of food; 43 lbs. of household goods;  49 lbs. of clothes and 41 lbs. of personal care items were collected. Great job. Thank you for your generosity!

A memorial service for Eric Holmes is scheduled  for July 17th at 3 pm here at Vermont Hills UMC.  Eric has attended Vermont Hills UMC  for many years and will be missed.

Small Groups

Time and time again it is noted by those who study vital and fruitful congregations that small groups are integral to their health and vitality.  In an effort to assess interest and give folks an opportunity to form groups Pastor Tim will hold a Sunday Forum on July 11 during Fellowship Time to explain small groups and give details about 4-6 options for groups.  You will get the chance to ask questions and to express interest and join with others to begin to form a small group.  For more information or to let Pastor Tim know of your interest you can contact him (503-246-1213, vhumcpastor@qwestoffice.net).  It is our hope that we can expand and enhance small group ministry at Vermont Hills UMC.

Magruder!

We are excited to continue the long-standing VHUMC tradition at the coast for the second week in October.  Bring your friends and families for fellowship, walks along the beach, games of Capture the Flag, songs around the campfire, etc.  We do need to get a tentative count by mid July - so please let us know if you plan to attend....remember you can choose to come for the whole weekend, or just for Saturday.  Please contact Jenna Schofer at jennaschofer@yahoo.om or 971-678-4282 to let her know if you will be attending or if you have any questions.

The Community Garden Expansion Project has experienced a number of issues with the City of Portland, both with the removal of the pavement and the expansion of the garden. In addition a $9,000 grant request to fund the materials was approved for only $4,000. Richard Draper will be meeting with our partners to consider if and how to proceed in early June.

Talk & Thought group has selected TWO books to be read this summer.  It was decided to start each meeting by reading a poem from "Good Poems for Hard Times" by Garrison Keillor; then reading "Better Off" by Eric Brende.  It is about “Two People, One Year Zero Watts - Flipping the Switch on Technology”.  All are welcome.  Tuesdays 1:00 to 3:00.

Upcoming Events and Volunteer Opportunities

Ushers, Liturgists, flowers, etc We need folks who will be stewards of their time and talents to step forward and volunteer for some fairly simple but vital ministries in our church.  We need liturgists -folks who can read scripture, offer prayers and help with the service about once every two months.  We need ushers – people who can greet folks who come to worship, assist them with locating a seat, getting a blanket, using hear assistance, collecting the offering, etc.  And we need folks who can bring flowers and arrange them for display on the altar during Sunday service.  To volunteer and steward your gifts of time and talent call the church office (503-246-1213) or email Debbie at humchur@qwestoffice.net
